United Way announces 2010 Campaign Goal: $1,850,000
For Immediate Release:
Tuesday August 10, 2010
RE: United Way announces 2010 Campaign Goal.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton today announced its 2010 campaign goal of $1,850,000.
Campaign Chair Marten VandenBroek noted that this year’s drive is off to a good start, even though the official campaign kick-off will take place on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 with the traditional Day of Caring. “Thanks to some early fundraising events this year, plus early contributions from industry and retirees, we are sitting at approximately 15% of the goal already. We hope that this momentum will continue into the fall,” he said.
The 2010 goal is unchanged from last year’s target. “We recognize the changes that are taking place in the industrial sector in Sarnia-Lambton, which accounts for two-thirds of our campaign achievement. While the demands for funding by our community partners continue to increase, we wanted to be realistic in setting an achievable goal,” VandenBroek added.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton is always looking for ways to use technology to increase the efficiency of our fundraising efforts, and at the same time make it more convenient for our supporters to make their donations. “Watch out for some exciting new developments in the coming weeks”, VandenBroek said.
Money raised in 2010 will be directed to meet the three-year commitments made in 2009 for programs and services in three impact areas.
Healthy, Safe and Independent Seniors
Empowering and Strengthening Self Sustaining Families
Supporting Youth at Risk to achieve Positive, Personal Development
Two fundraisers which have been very successful in past campaigns will be brought back for 2010; the Locally Lambton Dinner and the Kingston Hockey Weekend Getaway.
The Locally Lambton Dinner is a buffet of a wide variety of foods produced in Lambton County and prepared by Norm Piquette Catering. “All the meat, fish, dairy, eggs and vegetables served will have been donated to the event, and Norm Piquette has volunteered to prepare the dinner at no cost. Tickets will be available soon, and will be $45 per person, or $85 per couple. “The goal of the dinner is not only to raise money for the United Way, but also to educate the people of Sarnia that the world’s best food really is raised and grown right here in Lambton County. Each of the producers will have displays promoting their products and we are hoping that our vital agricultural sector will be supported by local residents throughout the year,” VandenBroek said. We are very grateful that Sun Life Financial and Libro Financial have again agreed to be sponsors of the event. The dinner will take place at the Dante Club on Wednesday, November 3rd, at 6:00 pm.
Melo Hotels in Kingston have once again generously donated six weekend get-away packages to help raise money for our campaign. Each package consists of first class train travel, hotel accommodations, meals and private suite tickets to the Sarnia Sting-Kingston Frontenacs hockey game on Sunday November 14th, 2010. The United Way and a number of our workplace campaigns will be auctioning or raffling these excellent packages.
The United Way funds 25 community partners, providing over 35 much needed programs and services to the Sarnia-Lambton community.
