United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Announces 2006 Campaign GoalAugust 14, 2006----The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton today announced a goal of $1,810,000 for its 2006 annual fundraising campaign. It is the first goal increase for the United Way since 2003. Campaign Chair, Martin Vrolyk made the announcement today at Dow Chemical's Sarnia Site. Dow is a pacesetter campaign for the United Way, with a generous $50,000 corporate contribution made in January of this year. Vrolyk, in his second year as Campaign Chair, is confident the 2006 challenge can be met, "I am honoured to be a part of the campaign again this year. The United Way is an important part of our community and I encourage everyone to support the campaign. Based on last year's success, when we surpassed the target of $1.8 Million by $5000, I believe we will be able to reach this year's goal."
The United Way campaign will officially kick off the weekend of September 23rd and 24th at the Great Canadian Fly-In at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport. United Way Executive Director, Dave Brown says there will be changes made to this year's campaign. "We are restructuring the method in which we deliver our special events. We are taking more of a risk free approach and partnering with local business' in order to raise additional dollars in new ways such as profit sharing," Brown says. "The Air Show is an example of that. As well, the United Way has partnered with Skylight Films in Petrolia, which will be screening the world premiere of the movie BLINDeye at the Imperial Theatre this coming October. The United Way will receive a portion of the ticket sales from the premiere."
