United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Press Release February 19, 2004United Way is pleased to support the Lambton Seniors Association and Pathways Health Centre for Children
Laura Black, Chair of the Community Investment Committee, is pleased to announce today that the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has provided Venture grant funding to the Lambton Seniors Association for their Communications program as well as Pathways Health Centre for Children for the Early Years Outreach Program for Preschool Children.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton will provide a $12,500 grant to the Lambton Seniors Association to provide a Communications program to assist seniors in our community. This program focuses on addressing the needs of seniors and helps promote the independence and quality of life, through effective communication to ensure that they can live in the community and out of nursing homes and other long term care facilities for as long as possible. "It is no secret that our community is getting older and today's seniors want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible to preserve their quality of life. This program helps make that possible," said Laura Black, Volunteer Community Investment Chair.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton will also provide a $30,000 grant, the largest ever Venture Grant investment, to Pathways Health Centre for Children for their Early Years Outreach Program for Preschool Children. This program will provide pediatric rehabilitation outreach services to preschool aged children with physical, developmental and communicative needs and their families in rural settings of Lambton County. As a result of these services, the preschooler is able to enter school with the available supports in place for the child to learn and achieve academic success.
"The United Way is very pleased to be able to assist this Agency in their ability to provide the vital services to young children in Sarnia-Lambton so that they can reach their full potential. This funding will go a long way to ensure that Pathways are able to continue to provide these and other highly specialized services to those children in our community most in need," said Black.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Board of Directors approved the grant from its Venture Grant program. The Venture Grant Program has approximately $90,000 available each year to fund new and innovative programs to the United Way, to meet a need in our community.
