United Way Announces 2004 Campaign Chair

United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Announces

April 25, 2004---The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton announced
today that Mr. Joe Dedecker, mayor of St. Clair Township, has accepted
the position of 2004 Campaign Chair.

"I am very pleased that Joe has accepted this position," United Way Volunteer
President, Bill Woods said today. "Joe's knowledge of the community and his
business contacts will definitely be a benefit to this year's campaign."

Dedecker is no stranger to the United Way. He has, in the past, volunteered on the Campaign Cabinet. He has also written and personally signed letters from the United Way addressed to Lambton County residents encouraging them to support the campaign.

"I am honoured that that the United Way has asked me to chair the 2004 campaign. I look forward to working with the staff, volunteers and the community to ensure the 2004 campaign is a successful one. I have personally been a long time United Way supporter. I have always felt that my donation to the United Way has had a positive impact here in Sarnia-Lambton. I am especially impressed with the Community Investment process the United Way uses when investing funding in the community"

Dedecker added that last year's shoes will be hard to fill as former Warden Pat Davidson led the campaign to success, reaching 103% of the objective. The 2003 campaign generated nearly $1.8 million, surpassing the $1.75 Million goal. More than 10,500 residents supported the campaign.

Currently, there are 28 Member Agencies receiving funding from the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton. Also, various agencies are receiving grant funding based on a one year term. Recently, the United Way announced short term grants to Sarnia-Lambton Rebound for a Learning Circles program, the Sarnia-Lambton Training Board for a Community Profile study, and Pathways Health Centre received a $30,000 grant for its Outreach Rehabilitation program for children. In all, more than 65 programs and services depend on the United Way for funding each year.

The 2004 United Way campaign will kick off with the annual Day of Caring on September 21, 2004. This year's goal will be announced in mid August.
