United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Campaign to Kick-Off with 11th Annual "Day of Caring"
September 7, 2004------The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton will launch its annual fundraising campaign on September 21st with the 11th annual "Day of Caring."
Three hundred people from 23 sponsoring companies and organizations will take part in this year's event. They will volunteer their time at 84 different locations across Sarnia-Lambton, ranging from homes of seniors to non-profit agencies. Participants will perform a variety of jobs such as landscaping, building projects and painting.
Organizer Pamela Cumming says the Day of Caring has become a Sarnia-Lambton tradition, "The event grows with each passing year. I think volunteers really see how much their time and effort is appreciated and look forward to taking part again. When the Day of Caring began 11 years ago, I never imagined it would grow to this extent."
Cumming adds the Day of Caring exemplifies the values of the United Way, "The United Way is essentially about people helping people and that is exactly what the Day of Caring is all about. Everyone who takes part feels a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day."
With the annual Day of Caring comes the official launch of the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign. This year's goal is $1,800,000. The 2004 Volunteer Campaign Chair is Joe Dedecker.
