United Way of Sarnia-Lambton
Appealing to the Community through"General Mailer"
December 3, 2004------The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has sent out 26,000 "general mailers" in an effort to boost its 2004 campaign drive. The self addressed envelopes will go mainly to households in Sarnia, Bright's Grove, Corunna and Camlachie, although some businesses will be included.
United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director, Dave Brown hopes the community will support this initiative, "The campaign is lagging behind last year's numbers and it is in desperate need of a boost. It is our hope that people who receive this envelope will consider giving to the United Way. We need all of the help we can get to reach our $1.8 Million goal." Brown adds that it has been a number of years since the United Way of
Sarnia-Lambton has sent out a general mailing to the community.
This year's mailing highlights the United Way's five funding priorities which include Poverty and Working Poor Families, Seniors Programs, Youth with Developmental Challenges, Medical Programs and Services, and Rural Programs.
Brown says thousands of people use the services of the United Way's 28 member agencies, which is why it is critical for the United Way to meet its goal, "These agencies are relying on us to fund specific programs which have been proven to help those in need in Sarnia-Lambton. If we don't get a positive response to this general mailing, it will make distributing funding to our agencies extremely difficult. I'm hoping it will not come to that."
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign currently sits at 70% of its goal, or just over $1.2 Million.
