United Way projects that it will reach goalDecember 23, 2005
The United Way announced today that it projects it will reach goal - likely in early January.
Currently, we are sitting at 97% of the $1.8 Million goal, but outstanding campaigns yet to finish will bring in four per cent more.
"To put this in perspective, we are officially at $1,750,000, just $50,000 short. However, when we add up the unfinished campaigns, we believe we will receive another $60,000 perhaps $65,000 more," said a relieved Campaign Chair Martin Vrolyk.
"Forecasting is a dangerous game," Vrolyk said, but added announcing that the goal will be reached is very important to the hundreds of volunteers involved with the United Way. The United Way is very comfortable that the outstanding campaigns will finish where we believed they will. "This is my Christmas wish for 2005," Vrolyk said.
"We have confidence in the remaining campaigns, and what our volunteers are telling us. These campaigns will run through the holidays and will wrap up in the first week of January," he said.
As of right now, some of the largest campaigns not totally reported include Cabot Canada, UBE Automotive, Hiawatha Slots, Royal Polymers and Chinook. As well, more money is expected through the mail from retirees, professionals, and Leaders of the Way. Leaders of the Way are donors who traditionally donate more than $500.
"We want to tell those who are planning on making a donation this year that we are still counting on them. In all likelihood, their continued support is part of our forecast and we need them as we do each year," he said.
Vrolyk said that not only is this announcement important for the many United Way volunteers who were involved in the campaign, but also for the volunteers involved with the Community Investment Committee, and the many agencies and Sarnia-Lambton residents in need of services.
Vrolyk added that he enjoyed his year as Campaign Chair and looks forward to remaining involved with the United Way; perhaps on the United Way Board in the future.
United Way will fund 29 local agencies who provide over 65 programs and services.
